You will be able to accomplish more if you finish things off quickly, so we agree that fast is better than slowโbut there are exceptions. The thing about quick turnaround projects is that, sure, it only takes days to finish them. However, that’s if our team works overtime, cracking out 10+ hour days.
You might be thinking that it’s not your problem anymore, but that’s just one of the many things that you can expect when you choose to go the fastest route. Some of those things, unfortunately, aren’t good for you.
And weโre saying that not because we donโt want you to do rush projects. We just want you to be aware of the possible issues that you may encounter if you go in that direction.
Here are the things that you’ll get to experience if you want your video to get done quickly:
- You have to pay additional fees.
- You should provide a script and a storyboard.
- You should be clear right from the very beginning.
- You can’t be demanding and expect perfect results.
- Redoing the video is not an option and you need to be reasonable with changes.
- You should respond within hours and not days.
Letโs get started.
Quick Turnaround Projects: What to Expect When You Go the Fastest Route
While we, as well as a lot of other video marketing agencies, don’t have any problem with doing quick turnaround projects, videos usually take weeks to finish because there’s a process that we go through to ensure quality.
If you want a quick turnaround, we’ll have to use a more narrowed process to be able to hit the deadline.
This new process isn’t bad per se, but you’re losing one of the major benefits to any project and that’s time. You see, time allows you to rethink, double-check, collaborate, or get outside feedback to ensure it’s what you want.
The checks and balances throughout our standard process allow for confirmation along the way that the video direction is solid.
Quick turnaround projects don’t allow for this time, and all too often, we’ve heard clients say at the end that they wish they would have thought of something while we worked on it. Most of these videos get redone in the future.
Here are the things that you should expect from quick turnaround projects.
1. You Have to Pay Additional Fees
Let’s talk about fees first and foremost. If you think that quick turnaround projects are less expensive as it doesn’t take long to finish them, think again.
While it’s true that those types of projects can be done within a short period, you have to pay additional fees for the additional challenges caused by the rush.
Also, sometimes, there is a need for more people to get the video done before the deadline, and you have to pay for the hours spent by those people on the project.
Less time doesn’t mean less payment. If it normally takes about 50 hours to finish a video, you’re basically just asking the video professionals to work for 50 hours within a few days.
2. You Should Provide a Script and a Storyboard
The typical video creation process involves a scripting phase, a design phase, and an animation phase. For quick turnaround projects, there is no scripting phase because you have to provide your own script.
It may not seem like it but the scripting phase is important because that’s where your ideas are laid out, talked about, sorted out, and finalized.
Scripts are what make videos solid and sensible from the beginning.
Without a script, the illustrators wouldn’t be able to think of visual ideas for your video. And if the illustrators weren’t able to think of visual ideas, the video editors wouldn’t have anything to work on because, where are the graphics?
Hereโs a sample of what you will get by the end of the scripting phase:
The visual ideas youโll see in the Visual column will look like these by the end of the design phase:
We make it a point to have a scripting session with our clients before anything else, and we do it for free.
However, your video must be done quickly, so a scripting session is out of the picture. You have to have your script prepared before we do the video editing so we can hit the deadline.
3. You Should Be Clear Right From the Beginning
If everything isn’t clear right from the beginning, we’ll have to spend so much time clarifying a lot of things, and that will affect the process negatively.
It will be easier for the video professionals to hit the deadline if they know everything that has to be done even before they get started on the project.
That said, you have to make sure that you know what you want, have a clear picture of the end result in mind, and share all the important details with the video professionals before they begin.
If you can’t communicate your vision, then all we can do is our professional best. But please don’t expect a perfect match for your vision.
4. You Canโt Be Demanding and Expect Perfect Results
We appreciate clients that are detail-oriented and particular. Our goal is to help your vision come to life.
However, in a quick turnaround project, there isn’t enough time to be demanding. There’s no time to explore multiple options and reiterate until it’s perfect.
We can only put our best foot forward with a single round of requested changes.
This is the reason why you have to be clear right from the start. We want to make the video as amazing as possible, but that means you need to be clear and bring up big concerns immediately if there are any.
You also need to be responsive, give feedback, and discuss ideas.
Also, because every minute counts with quick turnaround projects, itโs unlikely we can accomplish an animation style with lots of elements and sophisticated movements and transitions.
But thatโs not to say that we canโt create a great video quickly. Here are some of the videos weโve done for our clients in a matter of days:
5. Redoing the Video Is Not an Option and You Canโt Ask for Drastic Changes
Because we are indeed finishing the project on time, redoing is not an option and you can’t ask for drastic changes, especially when we’re close to the finish line. As mentioned earlier, you have to be clear from the very beginning and don’t expect great results.
Again, that’s why we don’t recommend rushed projects. We encourage you to take the time at the beginning of your project to explore directions if need be. Let our standard process help you get the video you want.
6. You Should Respond Within Hours and Not Days
We allow our clients to take their time when giving their feedback, but that’s just not going to help if the project is a rush project.
If you don’t respond within hours, there will be a lot of time wasted and it might become impossible to have the project finished by the deadline if it persists.
Conclusion
Without a doubt, you will get the video within a short period with turnaround projects. However, itโs not guaranteed that it will perfectly fit what you envisioned.
The success of quick turnaround projects depends on many factors, such as:
- Your willingness to pay additional fees.
- The script and the storyboard that you have prepared beforehand and provided to the video professionals.
- How clear your needs and wants are right from the very start.
- Your feedback, which you should give within hours.
This isnโt to scare you. This is to inform you of what you may have to deal with if you want things to turn around quickly so you donโt regret anything while youโre already in the situation and so you donโt get disappointed if things turn out to be not to your liking.
