Or, you could go with a production house, where you’ve got a full-time team, all geared up and ready to roll. Instead of being independent, they’re accustomed to working together, which can offer significant benefits. However, even in production houses, there often are guys that get contracted here and there for work.<\/p>\n
You\u2019ll basically approach both in the same way. So consider yourself talking to an independent director or a project manager at a production house. When you’re looking at a production house, it’s like peering into a box of assorted chocolates \u2013 you want to know what you’re going to get. Who’s leading the creative charge? You\u2019ll want to know who the main creative director will be and what their experience has been in the industry.<\/p>\n

Others might just jump in for the shoot and then hand you the files. How much project management are you going to get help with? You want to know that your project will get the time it deserves. For example, what if this production house gets a big job from a fortune 500 brand. Will your project get pushed to the side?<\/p>\n
Growth’s the name of the game, right? Say you need five videos now, but maybe fifteen later. Can they scale up without your budget ballooning like a hot air balloon? Look for that elasticity in their service.<\/p>\n
Post-Project Policies: After the party’s over, who keeps the memories? Make sure you know their stance on raw footage, licensing rights \u2013 the whole nine yards. While this isn’t legal advice, it’s important to note that copyright typically favors the creator, so it’s crucial to clarify ownership to avoid disputes. <\/p>\n
I would highly recommend not being that company that insists on getting all the raw footage only to realize that these files are very large and not something you can really tinker with. Its much better for you to received a library of clips from your shoot that are all process and ready to be used in the next project whether with this group or another.<\/p>\n
If you can, take a peek at their workspace. You’ll get a real feel for their vibe and how they operate. Plus, meeting the team face-to-face is always a bonus.<\/p>\n
Just about all video shoots have some unexpected turns. What if you need to cancel a shoot last minute, or \u2013 heaven forbid \u2013 a natural disaster prevents it from happening? You want a team that’s as resilient and will work with you on rescheduling.<\/p>\n
Like I mentioned before some production houses will work with independent contractors to meet specific deadlines. Determine whether they primarily work with full-time team members or rely heavily on subcontractors. A hybrid model of in-house and gig economy talent can offer more flexibility to meet unique project needs. But it can also mean people not used to working together are working together.<\/p>\n
In this fast-paced world, you want a team that keeps its finger on the pulse. Are they up-to-date with the latest trends, tech, and creative tricks? Look for a team that values learning and innovation.<\/p>\n
Sometimes, like leftovers from a great dinner \u2013 some footage is left unused from your project. What happens to that footage? Again, for us at Socialize Video we want to get the most from our shoots so all useable footage gets clipped and corrected and rendered out into a clip library to be used for whatever project in the future.<\/p>\n
Have them walk you through a typical production workflow from start to finish. This will help you gauge their thoroughness and attention to detail.<\/p>\n
Are they using the latest tech to streamline editing or enhance creativity? If not you could be paying a lot of time and money to repetitive work being done by hand rather than smart tools.<\/p>\n
